High School students across the southeast are being honored with an award of excellence, as part of April’s Volunteer Recognition Month. The students all participate in our Teen Trendsetters™ Reading Mentors program, pairing high schoolers with 2nd and 3rd-graders for weekly reading mentoring sessions. The 2010 Celebration of Reading event, which raises funds for Volunteer USA’s Family literacy efforts, was a smashing success. The annual Florida event is hosted by former Governor Jeb and Columba Bush. They were joined by his parents former President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush and a host of best-selling authors who delighted the crowd with their readings, all to promote reading and learning among parents and children.
2010 Celebration of Reading raises $3.4 million in contributions and in-kind donations to
fund many more years of successful family learning.
